Richards' 2011 Trip Report
Glacier back to SW Colorado
So we left Glacier after a wet night that left snow all over the mountains (but not on us in the campground). We headed down to Ennis, Montana to chill over Labor Day weekend in one of our favorite private campgrounds .. did a small restock, toured around Ennis, watched the opening weekend football games and the end of the US Open ... not a bad way to spend the weekend. On Labor Day we moved down to Teton Canyon Campground (on the back side of the Tetons) to meet up with some friends we met two years ago in Colorado ... as expected, we shared a lot of laughs, did some hiking, and overserved ourselves around the campfires .. you meet some wonderful people while traveling .. pictures below. On the following Saturday we went down to Victor, ID to spend the weekend .. while there we went over to Teton National Park and also played tourist and got the oil changed in the truck. Then we headed down to Ridgway, Colorado to visit the Ouray and Telluride areas for a week. Pictures below.

Wildflowers on a hike in the Teton Canyon area behind the campground.
Columbine growing out of a rotting tree on the trail.
Our good friends, Steve and Terri Chambers from Arkansas that we met in 2009 at a Colorado campground .. our travels finally put us in the same area. We did a hike up to a ridge overlooking the back side of the Tetons by the Grand Targhee Ski Area.
View from the location where we had our snack overlooking the Tetons. The flat topped mountain in the foreground was a hike we did in 2004 on one of our first RV trips ... no way we could do that today .. maybe after the next knee surgery??
A moose looking us over on the side of the road going into the campground .. it was more like "leave me alone and let me go back to eating" look.
Once we moved down to Victor, we spent a day touring over at Teton National Park .. these views never get old. There was a lot of smoke in the valley because of forest fires in the area. We also met Steve and Terri for a quick lunch in Jackson.
Rainbow over the trailer and in the campground .. our plan is to bring the rain and cooler weather with us when we leave for Texas in another 7 days.
After the Tetons, we moved on down to Ridgway (just north of Ouray, Colorado). As soon as we got settled in the campground we were covered up in cloudy, cold, rainy weather which lasted two days. This was taken when the last of it was leaving the area.
Colorado mountains in the Ridgway area.
View from the campground toward the San Juan Mountains in the direction of Telluride.
The town of Telluride from the gondola coming down from Mountain Village. We spent a day playing tourist in the town and had a great lunch .. as you can see, the weather is perfect.
Mountain views on the drive to Telluride .. the snow was a leftover from all the wet weather from the rains we had.
For some reaon, we just can't get enough of this.
More moutain views from trip up to Ouray, Colorado
This is being composed on September 20th .. tomorrow we plan to head down to Pagosa Springs (an area we have not camped in). Our hope is to find a good forest campground for 3 or 4 days and then head on down to the Taos, NM area for a couple of days. From there we will head back to Spicewood, the end of another great trip. If we find some interesting areas, I'll make another post and let you know. If not, thanks for taking the time to look at our travel experiences in 2011.
